Meta Secures 6 GW Nuclear Power for AI Data Centers, Shares Rise
Meta Platforms Inc. has secured access to over 6 gigawatts of nuclear power to support its expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure in the U.S. The agreements include partnerships with Vistra, Oklo, and TerraPower, combining near-term nuclear supply with future small modular reactor capacity.
Regulatory hurdles mean much of this new nuclear power may not come online until the early 2030s. However, federal clean energy policies and grid reforms are strengthening the case for co-located nuclear-powered data centers.
The MOVE underscores how energy availability is becoming a critical factor in the global AI race. Meta's massive data centers, required for training advanced AI models, demand constant and substantial electricity supplies, pushing tech giants toward long-term power arrangements.
